Nameservers

The Master Organisation and any resellers can create nameservers under SettingsPlatform.

These nameservers will:

  • Automatically be added to any customer DNS zones as NS records.
  • Display to your customers in their hosting control panel if LxRoot detects the website is not resolving to the correct IP.

Configuration Best Practices

You can create as many nameservers as you like. Ideally, you should have at least two nameservers in separate data centres. All DNS zones for your entire cluster will be served by each of your nameservers.

Note

Each nameserver must resolve to the IP address of a server in your cluster that has the DNS role installed.

Setting up A Records & Glue Records

In this example, we assume your hosting company is myhostingcompany.com.

Scenario Required Action
Domain is delegated outside (e.g., Cloudflare/Registrar) Create the A records at that external provider.
Domain is delegated within its own zone (e.g., ns1.myhostingcompany.com) Create Glue Records (Nameserver Hostname Records) at your domain registrar.
Pro Tip: You should also create matching A records in LxRoot. The easiest way is to add your main domain as a website, navigate to the Domains tab, and add an A record for each nameserver pointing to the desired DNS role IP.
